Kupwara- In a bid to prevent profiteering and black marketing by business establishments operating in Lolab sub- division, a special Market Checking team headed by Naib Tehsildar Lalpora Syed Mohd Shafi in coordination with TSO Sogam and police from PS Lalpora on Friday conducted a massive market checking in Lalpora & Darpora markets in Lolab sub division to ensure all essential commodities are being sold at Government prescribed rates.
The drive was carried out on the directions of District Magistrate Kupwara to curb the practice of illegal profiteering in markets ahead of special occasions including Shaab-i-Qadr and Eid-Ul-Fitr.
During the crackdown, dozens of food business units were inspected, while several erring shopkeepers were also fined for failing to maintain the quality of food items, not displaying rate lists of essential commodities, selling expiry products, besides indulging in practices of illegal profiteering.
A fine of Rs 5000 realised from the erring shopkeepers was recovered and expired food items, rotten vegetables, fruits worth Rs 10000 were also destroyed during the crackdown.
Meanwhile, the residents have lauded the efforts of Tehsil administration Lalpora in order to prevent profiteering and black marketing in the area and have asked the authorities to intensify such crackdowns in time to come as well.
