Special Cell for Women Kupwara in collaboration with Learnt Development corporation Ltd -Himayat centre Kupwara organised an awareness programme on “Gender Based Crime” at Himayat centre Salkoot Kupwara.
Speakers on the occasion spoke about various facets and forms of violence against women widely prevalent in our society , which includes female foeticide, discrimination, stalking , sexual harassment, dowry demands, child abuse and child marriage and domestic violence.
Social worker from special cell highlighted the concept and role of special cell in service delivery and prevention of crime against women.
Social worker shared that “special cell for women at district level is a new initiative supported by National Commission For Women-Govt. of India
In Jammu and Kashmir these cells started work since November 2021 and in Kupwara this cell is functional at DISTRICT POLICE LINES KUPWARA. It provides quality psyco-social-legal services to survivors of violence. It provides emotional support and builds support system by engaging family, community and other stakeholders.
Special Cell connects the survivors to required services like education, shelter and vocational training .
Social worker advised participants to use services of cell and share this information with others so that it will help to create a safe space for women.
