Srinagar : Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has expressed profound anguish over the massive flash floods that struck Rajouri following heavy overnight rainfall, causing extensive damage to public and private property, including the bus stand, and disrupting normal life in the town and surrounding areas.
The Chief Minister said he has been closely monitoring the evolving situation since early morning and that his office remains in constant touch with local representatives and district officials to ensure timely relief and rescue operations.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to the affected people, the Chief Minister assured that every possible assistance would be extended to families impacted by the flash floods.
“Since first light this morning I’ve been closely monitoring the situation arising from the extremely heavy rain in parts of Jammu, especially Rajouri town & surrounding areas. I’ve been in touch with the local MLAs of the region. While the situation continues to unfold the first priority of the administration is to safeguard precious lives. The government will do everything possible to aid & assist affected people who have suffered property loss/damage due to the rains & flash floods,” the Chief Minister said.
The Chief Minister also said that, in view of the weather warning issued by the Meteorological Department and the seriousness of the situation unfolding across parts of the Jammu division, he would leave Delhi this afternoon to fly to Jammu and personally monitor the situation on the ground.
Heavy overnight rainfall triggered flash floods in several parts of Rajouri, inundating residential areas and causing significant damage to infrastructure and property. Hundreds of residents have been evacuated to safer locations as a precautionary measure.
Rescue teams, along with the civil administration, are on the ground carrying out relief and rescue operations, monitoring the situation continuously and providing assistance to affected residents.
The Chief Minister emphasized that protecting human lives remains the government’s foremost priority and directed the administration to ensure prompt relief, rehabilitation and all necessary support to those affected by the natural calamity.
