Kupwara : Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Mr. Shrikant Suse (IAS), today chaired a meeting to review and finalize arrangements for the upcoming Karnah Festival – Mega Awareness Camp being organized under the theme “Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan.” The festival is scheduled to be held on October 2, 2025, at Tribal Village Amrohee, Block Teetwal.
Chairing the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner underscored the objective of achieving 100% saturation of centrally sponsored tribal welfare schemes during the festival. He directed all line departments to set up functional service counters, awareness stalls, and cultural exhibitions highlighting tribal heritage, eco-friendly products, and sustainable livelihood opportunities.
The DC informed that the festival will feature a series of special activities, including:
Health camps for local communities
Plantation drives to promote environmental conservation Drug de-addiction awareness programmes Youth engagement and educational awareness sessions
He further emphasized mobilizing all eligible tribal beneficiaries to ensure they are enrolled in and benefit from various government schemes. Special focus, he added, will be laid on the “Vocal for Local” campaign, with dedicated promotion of tribal arts, crafts, and culture.
Highlighting the larger vision, the Deputy Commissioner said the festival—organized in line with the directions of the Tribal Affairs Department, J&K Government—will also work towards addressing critical gaps under the 25 key interventions being implemented by 17 departments.
“The Karnah Festival will serve as a vibrant platform for community participation, preservation of indigenous heritage, and promotion of eco-conscious tribal entrepreneurship, thereby strengthening the developmental framework in the tribal belts of the district,” the DC remarked.
The meeting was attended by ACR Kupwara Peerzada Mumtaz Ahmad, CPO, DIO, CAO, AD Food, and other concerned officers.
