KUPWARA : The Deputy Commissioner (DDC) Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan Wednesday convened a meeting of concerned officers to review the implementation of PM Vishwakarma scheme.
ADC Kupwara, Gh.Nabi Bhat gave a brief overview of the scheme and also informed the committee members about the objectives of the scheme and progress of the scheme in the District.
Highlighting the significance of the PM Vishwakarma scheme, the DDC said that PM Vishwakarma is a significant step towards uplifting the lives of traditional Artisans/crafts people.
She further said that this initiative is set to empower and provide support to the artisans, and labourers commonly known as Vishwakarmas, who form a vital part of the informal or unorganized sector of the economy.
The DC gave a target of registration of 1500 artisans to the Handicrafts department and registration of 2000 labourers to the Labour Department.
District Manager CSC was directed to take all the beneficiaries on board and get their basic information and complete their registration by next Wednesday.
GM, DIC was directed to conduct an IEC campaign in the main towns of the district and depute resource persons for intensive awareness of the scheme.
ACP Kupwara was directed to make the PM Vishwakarma as the agenda point in the first Monday Gramsabha meeting so that awareness is imparted to the people about the scheme and artisans and craftsmen are identified at Panchayat level.
BLEs were asked to participate in the Gram Sabhas and register the eligible beneficiaries.
The scheme is focused to promote and support the local artisans in as many as 18 trades which include blacksmith, goldsmith, potter, carpenter, sculptor, barber, tailor, mason, washer, etc, making them eligible to avail all the benefits under the scheme.
The objective of the scheme is to provide skill upgradation to hone the skills of these artisans and make relevant and suitable training opportunities available to them
