NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police has busted a major international cyber fraud syndicate linked to over 2,500 complaints and scams worth more than ₹300 crore, officials said on Sunday.

According to investigators, the well-organised network operated across multiple states with international links, particularly in Cambodia. Police have so far identified over 260 bank accounts connected to more than 100 fictitious companies used to route illicit funds.

The alleged mastermind, Karan Kajaria, was arrested at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport on April 3 after a Look Out Circular was issued against him. He was brought to Delhi the following day for further investigation, said Deputy Commissioner of Police Aditya Gautam.

The case originated from a complaint filed by a Delhi resident who alleged he was duped of ₹31.45 lakh through a fake investment scheme. The victim was persuaded to download a fraudulent trading application promising high returns. When he attempted to withdraw profits, the app stopped functioning and the fraudsters became unreachable.

Police said the syndicate created fake investment platforms and messaging groups to lure victims. They used mule bank accounts arranged via intermediaries and deployed malicious apps to capture sensitive banking details, including OTPs. The funds were then routed through a complex network of accounts and shell companies to obscure their origin.

Investigators revealed that Karan Kajaria acted as a key coordinator, maintaining direct links with foreign operators and facilitating fund transfers through cryptocurrency channels. He allegedly served as a bridge between Indian operatives and international cyber criminals and frequently travelled abroad to strengthen these connections.

Technical surveillance helped authorities trace the network to Kolkata, where multiple bank accounts and shell entities were found. Upon his return to India, Kajaria was intercepted and taken into custody.

During the crackdown, police seized 48 mobile phones, 258 SIM cards, several ATM cards and cheque books, four laptops, and numerous banking and KYC documents. Funds amounting to ₹19 lakh have also been frozen.

Officials said the syndicate had been active for four to five years and operated extensively across states. A total of 11 accused have been arrested so far, while further investigation is underway to identify additional members of the network.(Agencies)
