Over the years, Kashmiris have gained a reputation for being hospitable and brotherly. This is demonstrated each year during the Amarnath yatra, when local Muslims assist Hindu pilgrims, portraying an image of communal unity and Kashmir’s traditional syncretic culture. The Amarnath yatra represents more to the local Muslims, who are the primary service providers, than just conducting business and making a living. The Amarnath pilgrims are given a safe and comfortable travel by the local service, which includes ponywallas and palanquin bearers, who risk their lives to endure the challenging trek, rain, and hot and muggy weather throughout the road up to the sacred cave. Every year, the Kashmiri Muslims organize a Hindu pilgrimage that highlights communal unity and the true essence of Kashmiriyat.
