Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have sped up action across the union territory to remove encroachments on lands classified as state land, ‘Kahcharie’ (grazing land) and those allotted under the scrapped ‘Roshni’ scheme.
Eviction notices have been served to occupants of state land, Kahcharie land and Roshni scheme beneficiaries to vacate the possession of such lands after self-demolition of structures raised on such lands or face legal action.
The government has passed directions to all the 20 district development commissioners in the Valley and the Jammu division to report compliance of the government order that has january as the deadline for implementation of the eviction order however that couldn’t be completed .
The government land is exclusively meant for use of government which includes construction of government offices for the people. So, the list is based on misreporting and misinterpretation of rules in vogue.
The opposition parties said that, The government has mobilised all its machinery to dispossess the poor of the land registered as kahchairi, shamilat and so on. After the BJP-led dispensation ended the special constitutional status of J&K, the government introduced a new set of land laws to prod outsiders into investing in the region, which had kicked up fears among the people about losing their land to the non-locals. And now their fears are coming true.
