Agriculture and its allied activities are the predominant sectors of the economy of J&K The cropping land use in the state also underwent drastic changes which led to a decrease in area under food crops and an increase in area under cash crops/plantation agriculture the UT of J&K had a total of 402.47 thousands hectors of land undr cultivation in financial year 2022. Of this, 335 thousand hectares was utilized for fruit production. The production of vegetables accounted for 60 thousand hectares of crop land in that year. The Jammu and Kashmir UT’s economy is predominately agriculture dependent and nearly 70% of population is directly or indirectly engaged in agricultural and allied occupations. As JK has an edge over the Rest of India by providing off-Season vegetables which helps our farmers to have a monopoly over the market and hence provides them enhanced price for their produce
UT of Jammu and Kashmir is fast becoming the export hub for agriculture and allied goods and the trade and export policy (2018-2028) along with numerous government schemes has given impetus to efficient production and marketing strategies, creating new benchmarks for J&K in the international market.
Many export success stories are making rounds in Jammu and Kashmir. Agri-preneurs have birthed unique products such as cold saffron beverages, dispersible saffron kehwa tablets, apple chips, apple powder, walnut butter, and a mechanized unshelled walnut processing chain.
