Smart City is a technologically aided society that uses ICT-enabled services to collect data about individuals, institutions and services to improve the living conditions of the inhabitants. Acc to media Reports , from last 3 years post abrogation of 370, The central government has approved over 276 projects in Jammu and Srinagar under the ‘Smart Cities’ mission. The projects are aimed at transforming these cities into vibrant centres that house all the modern facilities viz., quality city services, public aesthetics, ease of living and clean and sustainable environments. The cities of Jammu and Srinagar which used to be highly congested and underdeveloped have now been transformed into vibrant smart cities.
Acc to Srinagar smart city website, Smart City Mission was launched by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) GoI in which 100cities were to be selected for Urban renewal and retrofitting with the objective to promote cities that provide core infrastructure, give a decent quality of life to their citizens and apply smart solutions to improve services and infrastructure.
Details accessed by The Kashmir Monitor reveal that 122 projects worth Rs 3057.71 crore have been completed under the Smart City Mission in Jammu and Srinagar so far. Of these projects, 66 are in Srinagar and 56 are in Jammu.
Official details reveal that 119 projects are currently being executed in Srinagar, while 73 projects worth Rs 1846.94 crore are being carried out by Jammu Smart City Ltd.
