In a statement issued to the news agency, a spokesperson said the Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Kashmir, of Crime Branch J&K has filed a chargesheet in FIR No. 05/2026 under Sections 420, 468, and 471 RPC before the Court of Judicial Magistrate 1st Class, Sumbal, against two accused persons — Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, son of Mohammad Jawad Bhat, and Assadullah Bhat, son of Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bhat, both residents of Rakhi Shilwat, Sumbal in Bandipora district — for offences related to cheating and forgery.

The spokesperson said the investigation revealed that the accused concealed their educational qualifications, falsely projected themselves as illiterate, and obtained altered dates of birth through fraudulent certificates.

“This led to incorrect service records and unlawful extension of service tenure. They gained undue financial benefits, causing loss to the State exchequer. The chargesheet has been filed before the Court,” he said.

The spokesperson also advised the general public to remain vigilant against economic fraud and report such incidents to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Kashmir, Crime Branch J&K. Victims of economic fraud can also submit complaints through the official email, he added.—(KNO)
