Pohrupeth, Langate : In a significant development for healthcare in the Langate region, the residents of Pohrupeth have raised a strong demand for the alignment and upgradation of the local Health and Wellness Centre. The longstanding grievances regarding inadequate facilities and infrastructure were formally presented during a maiden visit by Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kupwara, Dr. Masrat Iqbal Wani, marking a moment of joy and hope for the local populace.
The community has long expressed concern over the poor state of healthcare delivery in the region. The current centre, still operating from a dilapidated sub-centre building, lacks essential services, equipment, and sufficient medical personnel. Speaking on behalf of the residents, community leaders highlighted several urgent needs including:
Provision of basic healthcare services to alleviate patient suffering
Deployment of adequate staff, particularly for emergency handling
Development of maternity care facilities at the centre
Supply of essential medicines and establishment of a functional laboratory
Comprehensive infrastructure upgrade with modern medical equipment and a new building
Dr. Masrat Iqbal Wani, during his visit, attentively listened to the concerns raised by the locals. He acknowledged the strategic importance of the Pohrupeth Health and Wellness Centre in serving a large rural population and reaffirmed the department’s commitment to strengthening grassroots healthcare. The CMO assured residents that their genuine demands would be addressed in a phased and time-bound manner.
The visit was welcomed with gratitude and optimism, as it marked the first-ever direct engagement by a CMO Kupwara with the Pohrupeth Health Centre. The community now looks forward to concrete steps from the health department towards ensuring accessible and quality healthcare for all.
