A report by some govt agency regarding Kashmir University inadvertently shared in some WhatsApp group and accessed by The Real Kashmir News and Global Kashmir News indicates that government is keeping close watch of academic and non academic activities in Kashmir University.
A couple of cases of nepotism, corrupt practices, influence and coercion by radical organisation has come into notice of government. It has been a usual practice in years when militancy was at peak that recruitments in university would take place at behest of militant threats and recommendations. As per our sources in University a couple of professors, with one being Head of the department owe their positions to their fathers who being Professors themselves disregarded the merit and appointed their sons. One of them is said to be active member of Jamat-e-Islami. It needs to be seen whether government will take any action against these elements.
Reliable Sources said Government is considering to refer such cases to crime branch for investigation and if necessary central agencies like NIA will also be asked to launch investigation.
The report also indicates the concern expressed by government in misappropriation of funds in past and also role of KUTA for which action has been recommended and as per sources some UT or central agencies may be asked to look into the matter. If this report is correct and gives any feel of thinking in top level, then there can be some action expected against few individuals who have enjoyed power and influence in past.
The Real Kashmir News tried to connect with some officers however they refused to comment on it.
Recently J&K government invoked Article 311 of the Constitution of India yet again to dismiss its three more employees, including a professor of Kashmir University, Police Constables and a teacher from service for their alleged “terror links and secessionist activities.” (The Real Kashmir News)
