Srinagar: Strawberry fruit harvesting has begun in the Kashmir valley, but farmers involved claim that this year’s rain has caused a 20% damage to the crop. The first fruit that appears in Strawberry Valley once the winter has passed is a strawberry. This fruit, which is distributed to various marketplaces around the nation, can only stay fresh after being taken from the plant for three to four days.

According to Manzoor Ahmed Khan, a farmer from Gassu village in the Hazratbal area of Srinagar, where farmers are currently busy harvesting this fruit, this year’s crop of this fruit has been 20% less productive as a result of the rains. He claimed that “This year’s strawberry crop would have been excellent, but the fruit was significantly harmed by the rains.”

Global Kashmir News, in an interview There are roughly 1,000 farmers who grow strawberries in Gassu Hazratbal. Apple orchards are also found here, although they provide a different type of support for the locals. Despite the destruction caused by the floods, farmers have optimism this year because of the good harvest, according to Manzoor Ahmed Khan. He asserted that despite the strawberry plant’s fruit needing a light misting of water every evening, this year’s fruit was hurt by May’s heaving downpours. He waters his little gardens to keep them alive.

Although there are strawberry farms in other parts of South Kashmir and the Tangmarg region of North Kashmir, Gaasu is where the majority of them are located, and its strawberries are regarded as the most delicious and the industry standard.

In an interview with Global Kashmir News At least 2,000 kilogrammes of strawberries are sent to the market each day from Gassu, claims Manzoor Ahmad. He stated that although some traders come to us and buy the goods, we frequently bring the goods right to the market. He said that the owners of bakeries, juice companies, and ice cream factories primarily purchase these fruits from us. In the valley, there might be more employment prospects if production significantly increases.
