Kupwara : Kamraj Forest Division, Kupwara, solemnly observed Forest Martyrs Day at the Baghe-E-Tehseen Eco Park, paying tribute to the brave forest officials who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. The event was marked by the participation of the families of the martyrs, forest officials, and dignitaries, with the families planting various species of trees in memory of their loved ones.
Anurag Arya, IFS, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Kamraj, in his address, highlighted the challenging and often dangerous nature of forest conservation work in Kashmir. “Our frontline staff work in an environment that, though breathtakingly beautiful, is filled with hostile elements. From encounters with wild animals to confrontations with violent interest groups, the threat of militancy has only amplified these risks. Despite these challenges, our brave forest officers stood firm, ensuring the protection of the pristine forests of Kashmir. Today, we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice, ensuring a safe and preserved forest for future generations,” Arya stated.
Arya further emphasized the importance of remembering these fallen heroes, whose legacy of courage and dedication continues to inspire forest conservation efforts. “Baghe-E-Tehseen, our park dedicated to these martyrs, is a living symbol of their commitment to preserving nature despite overwhelming odds. We salute their bravery, which will continue to inspire future generations of forest officials.”
The families of the martyrs shared emotional stories of their loved ones’ dedication to forest protection, underscoring the profound loss but also the pride they felt for their service.
Nazir Ahmad Mir, Block Forest Officer Kupwara, also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the significance of community involvement in forest conservation and the legacy of the martyred officers. “The sacrifices made by these heroes are a reminder to us all of the ongoing battle to safeguard our environment. We must carry forward their legacy with the same zeal and dedication.”
Farooq Ahmad Dar, Block Forest Officer Drugmulla, also spoke about the commitment of forest officials to protect the forests, despite the many challenges they face. He added, “Their courage serves as a beacon for all of us, motivating us to continue their mission.”
The ceremony concluded with a distribution of shawls to the martyrs’ families, a gesture led by DFO Anurag Arya as a mark of respect and appreciation for their sacrifices. Range Officers Reyaz Ahmad Wani (North Lolab), Faizan Ahmad (Kupwara), and Aijaz Ahmad Nagoo (South Lolab Sogam) were also present to honor the memory of the fallen officials.
The event was a moving reminder of the bravery and dedication of forest officials, whose sacrifices ensure the protection of Kashmir’s natural heritage.
