Bilal Manzoor, a nursing student from Kupwara, died due to cardiac arrest while in Saudi Arabia, leaving his family and community in deep shock. Following the tragedy, efforts were initiated to bring his mortal remains back to India. Officials of the Ministry of External Affairs worked closely with the family to expedite the process.

After coordinated diplomatic and logistical efforts, Bilal’s body was repatriated to New Delhi on April 17 and later taken to Lolab in Kupwara, where he was laid to rest in his ancestral village.

Thousands of mourners visited the family to offer condolences. Locals acknowledged the timely intervention of the Foreign Secretary and the Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia noting that the support brought solace to the grieving family during a difficult time.

Vikram Misri, a senior Indian Foreign Service officer of Kashmiri Pandit origin, is known for his proactive approach in addressing issues concerning Indian citizens abroad, especially in humanitarian cases.
