In a statement issued to the news agency, a spokesperson said the EOW Kashmir has filed the chargesheet before the Court of Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, Srinagar, in case FIR No. 28/2026 against Ghulam Ahmad Ganie, son of Ghulam Mohammad Ganie, a resident of Mirgund, Budgam, for offences punishable under Section 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Sections 228 and 229 of the BNS.

He said the investigation was initiated on the basis of a written complaint alleging that the accused, who is also an accused in the ongoing investigation of FIR No. 11/2021 of Crime Branch Kashmir, now EOW Kashmir, transferred Rs 10,000 into the bank account of an Investigation Officer with the alleged intention of bribing and influencing the investigation in the case.

The spokesperson said that upon receipt of the complaint, a probe was ordered. During the investigation, the allegations were examined and relevant evidence was collected. The investigation established the involvement of the accused in the alleged act, following which the chargesheet was prepared and presented before the court for judicial determination in accordance with law.

He said the general public is advised not to offer or pay bribes to any public servant for obtaining any favour or service. Any demand for a bribe or involvement in corrupt practices should be immediately reported to the competent authorities for necessary legal action.

Public cooperation and timely reporting are essential to curb corruption and promote transparency and accountability, he added.—(KNO)
