Kupwara : Ahead of the upcoming winter season, the Mechanical Division Handwara has finalized comprehensive arrangements to ensure smooth and uninterrupted snow clearance across the districts of Kupwara, Bandipora, and Ganderbal.
Manzoor Ahmad Khan, Executive Engineer, Mechanical Division Handwara, stated that the department is fully prepared to tackle snowfall and maintain road connectivity during the harsh winter months. The division is catering to three districts with a total deployment of 62 snow-clearance machines, strategically stationed to ensure prompt response.
In Kupwara district, the main control room has been set up with 22 snow-clearance machines, all kept in a ready-to-operate condition. Bandipora district has been provided with three control rooms at Bandipora, Sumbal, and Gurez, collectively equipped with 26 machines, including 10 in Bandipora, 6 in Sumbal, and 10 in Gurez. Meanwhile, Ganderbal district has been allotted 12 machines, ensuring effective coverage and timely snow removal.
The Executive Engineer appealed to the general public to cooperate with the department by avoiding parking vehicles and dumping construction materials on roads, which often obstruct snow clearance operations. He emphasized that public cooperation is crucial, especially during emergencies, to facilitate swift action and keep vital routes open for essential services.
The department reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining road connectivity and minimizing inconvenience to residents throughout the winter season.
