Kupwara : In a remarkable display of community spirit and collaboration, the ICDS Department, Health Department, and Piramal Foundation (Development Partner – NITI Aayog) jointly organized a Special Mega VHSND (Village Health Sanitation and Nutrition Day) under the banner of Rashtriya Poshan Maah – Sewa Parv and Kuposhan Mukt Kupwara at AWC Bakhshi Mohalla Gundi Macher, Sogam.
The initiative brought together 14 Anganwadi Centers and saw the participation of more than 150 people, including children, pregnant women, lactating mothers, adolescent girls, and local community members.
The program was graced by Mr. Abdul Qayoom Wani, CDPO Sogam, who underlined the importance of nurturing strong foundations in early childhood education and healthcare. He emphasized the vital role VHSNDs play in ensuring community health through regular check-ups, nutrition support, and awareness drives. Urging families to take active part in Poshan Abhiyaan, he called for a united push towards a healthier, stronger future.
On-site health check-ups were conducted by Dr. Aashiq Hussain (MO RBSK), who also sensitized participants on child growth, preventive healthcare, and the importance of nutrition. He praised the Piramal Foundation’s efforts in mobilizing communities and making the program a success. Dr. Tahir Hamdani (Pharmacist) along with FMPHWs Fahmeeda Rasheed and Sameena Akhtar extended vital health services to the beneficiaries.
Supervisor Ms. Nasima Akhtar highlighted the role of parents in safeguarding child health through proper nutrition, immunization, and hygiene. She stressed that “healthy children are the foundation of a strong society.”
Adding to the day’s spirit, Gandhi Fellow Abdul Raqueeb delivered an inspiring talk on the importance of health, hygiene, and nutrition as the cornerstones of a resilient, malnutrition-free community.
The AWC cluster covered an extensive area including Bakhshi Mohalla Gundi Macher, Khous Mohalla, Henderpora, Bhatt Mohalla, Shorgadi Mohalla, Mir Mohalla, Hajam Mohalla, Bhat Mohalla Rakhi, Sheer Gojri, Maidon Mohalla Rakhi, Ganie Mohalla, Green Colony A & B, and Reshi Mohalla.
