Since the landmark decision of August 2019, not a drop of innocent blood has been spilled, no Kashmiri has lost their eyesight to pellets, no businessman has been coerced into closing shop, no meritocracy in exams has been compromised, and no lackey of regional parties has threatened the common folk. The upcoming rally for Kashmiris holds immense promise, but no announcement or gift could surpass the invaluable peace and stability that Modi’s leadership has brought to the region.

It is not the first time that the Prime Minister of the country will set foot in Kashmir, yet this visit carries unprecedented weight. Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi’s forthcoming trip to the valley marks a historic occasion following the landmark decision to abrogate Article 370 and 35A. Despite having visited J&K 15 times during his two consecutive terms in office, his 16th visit, confirmed for March 7, 2024, holds immense significance as it signifies his first visit since the pivotal events of August 2019. In the hearts of Kashmiris, Prime Minister Modi transcends his role as the nation’s leader; he is revered as a transformative figure who has brought an end to the longstanding sufferings of the Kashmiri people. While preparations are underway by the valley’s administration for the PM’s arrival, the local populace eagerly awaits the opportunity to witness his presence firsthand.

Kashmir holds a special place in the heart of Prime Minister Modi, evident through his actions and gestures over the years. During times of crisis, such as the devastating floods that struck the Valley, PM Modi stood in solidarity with its residents, even choosing to celebrate Diwali in Srinagar as a gesture of support and reassurance. His widely popular radio programme, ‘Mann ki Baat’, consistently features segments dedicated to Kashmir, addressing a diverse array of topics ranging from Nadru farming (lotus stem cultivation) to snow cricket and the promotion of tourism. These engagements reflect PM Modi’s deep-rooted love and affection for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, underscoring his commitment to their welfare and development. For nearly three decades, Kashmir has been marred by bloodshed, violence, and terrorism, leaving behind a trail of sorrow and loss. Amidst this turmoil, Kashmiri politicians seemed helpless, unable to stem the tide of violence that claimed countless lives. Many believe they were complicit beneficiaries of this chaos, offering empty promises and false hope. However, from the heart of Gujarat emerged a Messiah, Narendra Modi, who sought to alleviate the pain of a mother mourning her lost son to terrorism. He didn’t just pave the way for Kashmir’s development but also put an end to the bloodshed and confusion perpetuated by politicians. Modi emerged as the savior of Kashmir, embodying the strong political will that had long been absent.
The decision of August 2019 by Hon’ble PM Modi has brought infinite changes to the valley.  This decision has proven to be a sigh of relief for Kashmir, as post-abrogation, the valley has witnessed peace, progress, and prosperity. The political class sold us dreams in the name of Article 370, but as a common Kashmiri, I realize the loss was theirs, not ours. Peace matters more than political games. Kashmir has witnessed progress and development post the abrogation of Article 370. Commoners now breathe in an air of peace, unlike the pre-2019 era. Students go to their colleges daily, businesses run smoothly, and the voices of peace echo in every nook and corner of the valley. This is what every Kashmiri had longed for almost 70 years, and they attained it only after the abrogation and under the stalwart leadership of PM Modi. For a common Kashmiri, no article or special status holds significance if their last name isn’t Abdullah or Mufti. They can’t imagine their sons studying in the US or the UK; for them, colleges in Kashmir are like Harvard and Stanford. Their aspiration has always been for peace, allowing their children to attend college regularly and secure good jobs. Post-abrogation, they have experienced this peace, and for them, witnessing their sons attending college daily is a dream come true, with no consideration for Article 370.
Central government schemes, such as the Jal Jeevan Mission and Saubhagya Electrification Scheme, have been instrumental in reaching the remotest corners of Jammu and Kashmir, significantly improving access to clean water and electricity. The Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana has emerged as a lifeline for those below the poverty line, alleviating their hardships and contributing to an overall upliftment of living standards amidst a backdrop of peace and stability.
Furthermore, the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) SEHAT scheme deserves special mention. This initiative provides free insurance coverage and financial support up to Rs. 5 lakh per family to all residents of Jammu and Kashmir, democratizing access to quality healthcare. Even the economically disadvantaged now have the means to avail themselves of the best medical treatment, thanks to this pioneering scheme. Moreover, the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) has played a pivotal role in transforming road infrastructure in the region. Jammu and Kashmir currently ranks third in the country in road network development under this scheme, further enhancing connectivity and facilitating economic growth. If I keep on writing about how and what PM Modi has delivered to Kashmir, I won’t be able to culminate this article.
HOW DO I THINK THE PEOPLE OF THE VALLEY WILL WELCOME THE PM MODI?
Amidst my recent interactions with locals in Kashmir, I stumbled upon a plethora of videos resonating with sentiments of admiration and gratitude towards Prime Minister Modi for his contributions to the region. One particular video stood out, featuring a Kashmiri woman expressing her unwavering support in her native tongue: ‘I have no allegiance to any political party; however, I deeply admire PM Modi. If he were to visit Kashmir, I swear by God, I would offer him a garland worth 1 lakh rupees.’ This heartfelt pledge encapsulates the genuine affection and respect many Kashmiris harbor for PM Modi, contrasting starkly with the relentless criticism he faces from local politicians who resent his refusal to indulge their monopolistic tendencies and misleading tactics.
During my recent visit to a remote village nestled 20 kilometers away from the bustling town, I encountered an elderly gentleman who shared his reflections in Kashmiri: ‘We have endured a lifetime of violence and turmoil. It is only in the past few years that we have tasted the sweet fruits of peace and tranquility.’ He recounted how successive leaders had courted their votes, yet none had delivered on their promises of basic amenities such as paved roads, electricity, and essential services. With a sense of profound gratitude, he remarked, ‘Allah has sent Modi to fulfill our long-standing needs,’ emphasizing the transformative impact of the central government’s initiatives.
If the administration permits, it’s highly likely that ordinary Kashmiris, irrespective of their political affiliations, will eagerly greet Prime Minister Modi with garlands and resoundingly chant slogans of ‘MODI HAI TO MUMKIN HAI’ (With Modi, everything is possible). The remarkable outpouring of love and support from Kashmiris towards Modi Ji finds its most steadfast reason in one fundamental aspect: he has brought the most cherished and long-awaited gift to the valley—PEACE.
This sentiment resonates deeply among the populace, transcending political divides and affiliations. For years, Kashmir has yearned for stability and tranquility, and under Modi’s leadership, this aspiration has begun to materialize. It’s this tangible impact on their everyday lives—fostered by an environment of peace and security—that has endeared Modi to the hearts of countless Kashmiris.
