Orientation & Coordination conference held at DC Office Srinagar

Preparations for conduct of Table top Exercise, Physical Mock Exercise discussed to test and refine disaster response protocol

SRINAGAR : With an aim to enhance disaster preparedness and coordination among key stakeholders in the district, an orientation & coordination conference was held today at the DC office, Srinagar.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Aadil Fareed, who is also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Srinagar presided over the event, while Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Kashmir Irfan Qazi; Deputy Controller of Civil Defence, Consultant DDMA, Amara Naseem; Consultant DDMA Srinagar, Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat and other officials were present on the occasion.
The session featured a comprehensive presentation via video conference by Deputy Secretary, Department of DMRRR, Snowber Jameel, and Chief Executive Officer DMRRR, Amir Hussain.
During the session, emphasis was placed on the urgent need to update the Indian Disaster Resource Network (IDRN) to ensure real-time access to critical resources during emergencies.
Further, the conference focused on updating the Incident Response System (IRS) and revising the District Disaster Management Plan to incorporate lessons learned from past incidents and to strengthen response strategies.
On the occasion, stress was also laid on identification of vulnerable flood sites aiming to prioritize mitigation efforts and resource allocation. It was decided that five flood-prone areas will be identified within Srinagar district for conducting mock exercises.
Moreover, preparations with regard to conduct of Table Top Exercise scheduled for June 14, 2025, and a physical mock exercise on June 17, 2025 were also discussed in order to test and refine disaster response protocols.
Speaking on the occasion, ADC emphasized the importance of inter-departmental coordination and community involvement in disaster management efforts. He highlighted that the upcoming exercises would serve as critical platforms to assess and enhance the district’s preparedness for potential disasters.
