Kupwara June 29 : Residents of Qasba Hyhama in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Wednesday expressed strong resentment against the authorities for failing to provide them with basic facilities.
The residents of this area alleged that authorities have neglected this particular area, resulting in people of this locality going through various hardships in the absence of a drinking water facility and proper road connectivity.
Residents said if they apprised the officials several times regarding the problems, time and again they got assurance from the higher officials.
They claimed during the back-to-back village programmes they were assured that their grievances would be redressed. However, no steps have been taken to provide better roads and other basic facilities.
“The roads in the locality were not macadamized by the department.” Due to which, it is taking much more time than usual for residents to reach various locations.
The residents of this area also alleged that this area is also facing an acute shortage of drinking water, and they are being forced to fetch the water from nearby streams, which poses a serious threat of getting infected with water-borne diseases.
“We have protested several times in the past, but to no avail,” the residents claimed.
The locals added that during health emergencies, people witness a lot of hassles while shifting patients towards hospitals as the condition of the roads in the area is pretty bad.
The locals said that they have brought these issues to the notice of higher ups several times but to no avail.
They said that the area has been neglected for the last several decades.
The locals now urged upon the Lt Governor led administration and District Administration kupwara to look into the matter and provide basic facilities to the area so that they too can live their lives happily.
