Rahul Gandhi to Launch Nationwide Student Conventions from Kota on June 17 Over Examination Scandals

NEW DELHI: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi will spearhead a series of large student conventions across the country beginning in Kota on June 17, as the Congress intensifies its campaign against alleged examination irregularities and issues affecting students and job aspirants.

Announcing the programme, Congress General Secretary (Organisation) K. C. Venugopal said similar conventions will be held in Allahabad on July 10, Patna on July 11 and Delhi on July 14.

“Rahul Gandhi will conduct a series of large student conventions starting with Kota (17 June), Allahabad (10 July), Patna (11 July) and Delhi (14 July), bringing together students, aspirants, youth organisations, educators and all those directly affected by examination scandals,” Venugopal said.

He stated that the nationwide campaign would mobilise students through extensive outreach by the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), Indian Youth Congress, Pradesh Congress Committees, District Congress Committees and local party units.

According to Venugopal, the outreach programme will include physical and digital invitations, campus campaigns, interactions at coaching centres, universities, schools and youth hubs, social media initiatives, live screenings and direct engagement with students on a large scale.

The Congress leader said the movement is inspired by Rahul Gandhi’s view that the aspirations of young Indians should not be compromised by corruption, administrative failures or political indifference. He said the campaign aims to unite students beyond political affiliations and provide a platform for affected youth to share their experiences and seek accountability for repeated examination failures and paper leak controversies.

Venugopal added that the movement will carry forward demands earlier raised by Rahul Gandhi, including decentralisation of the NEET examination process, abolition of examination fees, stringent legal action against those involved in paper leak rackets and accountability at the highest levels of government, including the resignation of the Union Education Minister.

“Having repeatedly raised these issues, Rahul Gandhi has made the defence of merit, fairness and equal opportunity for youth a pressing matter of national importance,” Venugopal said.

The announcement comes in the backdrop of the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2026 examination following allegations of paper leaks and administrative lapses. The examination has since been rescheduled for June 21.

The Congress said the upcoming conventions will focus on concerns related to examination integrity, employment opportunities and educational reforms, while seeking to build a nationwide movement around issues affecting students and young job seekers.(Agencies)
