Sogam : In a significant judgment, the Court of Judicial Magistrate First Class Sogam, Lolab, presided over by Mudasir Yousuf Malik, convicted a driver involved in a road accident case and sentenced him to one year of imprisonment along with a fine of ₹10,700.
Adopting a strict stance against road accidents and traffic violations, the court observed that individuals who endanger public lives and safety cannot escape the consequences of law merely on grounds of sympathy.
The case was registered at Police Station Lalpora under FIR No. 17/2024. According to the prosecution, the accused was driving a Sumo vehicle rashly and negligently at Dardpora, Lalpora, causing injuries to several persons. It was further established that the vehicle was being operated without valid registration and permit documents.
Based on the evidence and witness testimonies, the court found the accused guilty under Sections 281, 125(a), and 125(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 192, 56, and 192A of the Motor Vehicles Act.
During the proceedings, Public Prosecutor Zulfikar Alam argued that the accused’s reckless driving had injured innocent people and endangered several lives, warranting strict punishment commensurate with the gravity of the offence.
After hearing the arguments, Judicial Magistrate First Class Sogam Mudasir Yousuf Malik sentenced the accused to one year of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹10,700.
The court emphasized that reckless driving and violations of traffic laws will not be tolerated and that offenders endangering public safety will face strict legal consequences.
