Local residents informed Rising Kashmir that heavy rains caused flash floods at two different places of Pampore Tehsil.

They added that flash floods caused damage to a vital road at Nagandar village and submerged standing paddy crops at Munpora village.

Mukhtar Ahmad Lone, sarpanch Halqa Nagandar, told that flash floods damaged a road in their area.

“Around seven villages have been disconnected due to damage to this vital road,” he said, adding that the road is life -line for Nagandar, Zantrag, Satpakhran and Ismail Colony for connecting these with Khrew town.

He urged authorities for repairing the bridge as soon as possible so that villagers face no problem in ferrying patients and other emergency cases to Khrew town.

Ghulam Hassan Rather, an aged resident of Munpora village, told that flood inundated agricultural land in the area.

“We derive our living by growing paddy, it has been damaged due to flash floods caused by heavy rains,” he said, adding that a big area of agriculture land has been hit. He said that Munpora Wuyan road was also inundated which affected movement of pedestrians.

He demanded that the affected farmers be compensated for the damages.

Tehsildar Pampore Zubair Ahmad Bhat said that there was heavy discharge of water in Nagandar due to rains.

“A portion of Nagandar road caved in due to the flow,” he said, adding that at Munpora village some patches of agricultural land were submerged.

“We will carry a survey in the area and a project report will be framed for fair compensation to affected farmers,” he said.(RK)
