Sogam, Kupwara: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Thursday organised a commemorative programme at Sogam, Kupwara, to observe the 24th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Mushtaq Ahmad Lone, senior JKNC leader and former Home Minister.
On the occasion, heartfelt tributes were also paid to late Ghulam Mohideen Lone, remembering his contributions as a political and social activist. Speakers recalled the services and contributions of both leaders towards the people of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly the people of Lolab.
The programme was attended by MLA Lolab Qaysar Jamshaid Lone, former DDC Member Nasir Lone and several other political, social and public figures.
Speakers described Shaheed Mushtaq Ahmad Lone as a visionary leader who made significant contributions towards water conservation, agriculture and rural development. They said his initiatives had a lasting impact on the farming community and contributed to the socio-economic development of Lolab Valley.
A public darbar was also held at Lone Manzil, where several important developmental issues concerning Lolab were discussed, including the Lolab-Sopore Road, Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) water-supply projects and other ongoing and proposed development works.
During the public darbar, MLA Lolab Qaysar Jamshaid Lone also referred to a video circulating on social media featuring former MLA Abdul Haq Khan. He said that in the video, the former MLA had stated that a DPR for the Lolab-Bandipora Road was to be prepared.
However, Qaysar Jamshaid Lone said that when he checked the available official records, he could not find any DPR for the proposed Lolab-Bandipora Road. He said there should be clarity regarding the status of such major developmental projects so that the public is properly informed.
The public darbar also provided an opportunity for people to raise concerns regarding road connectivity, drinking-water supply and other basic developmental issues in Lolab.
The programme concluded with prayers for the departed souls and a renewed commitment to carry forward their legacy of public service, development and welfare of the people.
