Trump Announces Two-Week Ceasefire with Iran, Calls 10-Point Proposal ‘Workable’

Washington : US President Donald Trump has announced a two-week “double-sided” ceasefire with Iran, suspending the ongoing bombing and attack campaign and signaling a possible breakthrough toward a long-term peace agreement.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the decision followed discussions with Shehbaz Sharif and Asim Munir, who urged restraint. The ceasefire is conditional upon Iran ensuring the “complete, immediate, and safe opening” of the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump stated that the United States had already achieved and exceeded its military objectives, and that a 10-point proposal submitted by Iran would serve as a foundation for negotiating a permanent agreement. He described the proposal as “workable” and said that most major points of contention between the two sides had already been resolved.

The US President added that the two-week pause would provide crucial time to finalize and formalize a long-term peace deal, expressing optimism that the prolonged tensions in the Middle East could soon reach resolution.

The announcement marks a significant shift from Trump’s earlier rhetoric, in which he warned of potential large-scale destruction and even hinted at regime change in Iran. The ceasefire, effective immediately, is expected to raise hopes of de-escalation in a conflict that began on March 28, as both sides move toward diplomacy over confrontation.(Agencies)
