Weather improves after snowfall in Kashmir, major highways, Mughal Road remain closed

Srinagar : The weather conditions improved across the Valley on Friday following a day-long snowfall at most of the places while the weatherman here has predicted a week-long dry spell in Kashmir till January 07, 2023.

Reports reaching the news agency most of the places of Kashmir including plains as well as the higher reaches received fresh snowfall yesterday.

As per the details, Kupwara recorded the highest depth of rain/snowfall with 35.4mm while Kokernag, Gulmarg and Pahalgam, the famous tourist destinations recorded 8.1 mm, 21.9 mm and 15.3 mm respectively.

Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir experienced light snowfall while the officials in the Meteorological department (MeT) said that the depth of rain/snowfall was 4.6 mm.

The officials said that the night temperature is expected to drop further tonight. “There is a possibility of warmer days and colder nights for the coming days,” the officials said.

Moreover, the major highways and roads across Jammu and Kashmir continued to remain closed for a second straight day due to the fresh snowfall.

As per the details, Srinagar-Jammu highway remained closed today after the fresh snowfall occurred at Ramban while Srinagar-Leh highway also remained closed due to the snowfall.

The Mughal Road also remained closed for the second straight day—(KNO)
