For many decades, India has really wanted to get a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council, and that’s been a big part of their foreign policy. With changes happening in global politics and how power is set up between countries, there’s a growing call for the United Nations to be reformed.A lot of countries and experts think that the organizations set up in the middle of the last century need to change because today’s world is very different.India’s increasing sway in politics, economics, and diplomacy has made it a key player in this conversation. The Security Council holds a lot of power within the United Nations. This group handles keeping the peace globally, setting up peacekeeping teams, and acting when there are conflicts.Right now, there are five countries that are always on the council: the United States, Russia, China, the United Kingdom, and France. Each of these countries can stop important decisions from happening. The way things were set up, right after World War II, really came from how global power was operating at that point. But after more than seventy years, the world is quite different now.New economic powers have come about, more people live across the world, and many developing countries now play an important role in how international matters are handled. Some critics say the way the Security Council is set up right now doesn’t really show how things have changed. Many areas around the world, especially in Africa and Latin America, still don’t have permanent representation.India asking for a permanent seat here is often viewed as part of a larger push to make global governance more democratic. With a population of over one person.India is home to roughly one out of every six people on Earth, with a population of 1.4 billion. As the world’s biggest democracy, it’s becoming more and more influential in global talks about climate change, growing economies, new technology, and keeping things safe internationally. In recent decades, India has become one of the fastest-growing large economies and an important advocate for developing countries. This suggests that India should have a greater say in global decisions.India’s consistent involvement in UN peacekeeping missions further strengthens its bid.Indian soldiers have been part of United Nations missions for many years, helping out in conflict areas in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Many Indian soldiers have done tough work to keep people safe, uphold peace agreements, and bring stability to areas affected by war. Some of these individuals have died while working for global peace.India has always pushed for diplomacy, talks, and working together with many countries to solve conflicts, not just relying on military actions.Leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Gautama Buddha have really shaped this country’s political thinking. They both stressed principles such as peace, non-violence, and moral responsibility in public life. These values are still important in how India handles international relations, and they help show that India is a reliable and responsible player on the world stage. Many countries worldwide have also shown their support for India’s proposal.Japan, Germany, and Brazil are working with India to push for changes to the Security Council. These countries, known as the G4, believe that if more countries were made permanent members, the council would better represent everyone and work more effectively. Many African and other developing countries have also said they support India’s bid, seeing it as a representative for the Global South.Indian leaders have often brought up the topic of changes to the UN Security Council when they speak at international meetings.Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasized that global institutions should represent today’s world. He believes India isn’t asking for recognition out of pride, but because it’s only right, and they want to do their part.Prime Minister Modi believes that India should have a permanent seat on the UN Security Council.India still hopes to get a permanent spot on the Security Council. It’s not right for a country with almost a sixth of the world’s population to be left out of decisions made by the most important group for global peace and safety. The United Nations started in 1945, which was a response to the way things were back then. But things are very different now.Global organizations need to change so they accurately reflect today’s world.India has consistently promoted peace, cooperation, and harmony.India has always believed in talking things through and avoiding violence.”India is not making a request for special treatment. “India believes it should have a more significant role in global decision-making.India’s help with UN peacekeeping and its ongoing dedication to global stability show that we’re prepared to take on more responsibilities. These words show what many people in India’s government and diplomatic teams are thinking. The country thinks it should be a permanent member because of its large population, its democratic principles, its growing economy, and its steady work for global peace.Even though there are good reasons for it to happen, getting a permanent seat on the Security Council is still a tough road. For any reform to pass, two-thirds of the UN General Assembly needs to agree, and every country that is currently a permanent member must also give their approval.Political disagreements and various national priorities have often hindered efforts to make changes.Despite this, discussions about changing the Security Council are becoming more frequent. With the world becoming more multipolar, many experts think that adding new strong countries like India to the council would make it more legitimate and effective.Having a council that truly represents everyone would help us deal with today’s problems, from fights between countries to big global issues.India’s desire to become a permanent member of the Security Council is more than just a goal for our country. This shows a general desire for fairer treatment and better representation when it comes to how the world is governed.People generally agree that for the United Nations to stay important in this century, it needs to change and include more voices that show what the world is really like now. India is definitely one of those important voices.
