Balochistan is often described as a land rich in natural resources and strategic importance, yet for many people living there, daily life continues to revolve around uncertainty, fear, and deprivation. The province contains vast reserves of gas, minerals, gold, and copper, and projects like Gwadar Port and CPEC have increased its political and economic significance. Still, many locals feel disconnected from the benefits of these developments. In several areas, people continue to struggle with unemployment, weak healthcare systems, a lack of educational opportunities, and poor infrastructure. This contradiction between resource wealth and public suffering has remained one of the central issues shaping unrest in the region.

It is widely believed by political organizations in Baluchistan that they have not been provided with appropriate political rights and have not been given due representation in decision-making for quite a long time. They feel that there is no proper transfer of powers from the state government to the local population with respect to resource management, governance, and security.

One of the most painful and widely discussed issues in Balochistan is that of enforced disappearances. Families across the province continue to speak about relatives who allegedly disappeared after being taken away by security agencies or unidentified individuals. In many cases, families say they never received any legal explanation, court proceedings, or official information about the whereabouts of their loved ones. Students, scholars, activists, journalists, and political workers are often mentioned in these reports.

The effect of these disappearances emotionally touches the people, as behind each missing individual, there is always a family yearning for news about them. Mothers keep shouting for justice in the streets while carrying photos of their children who are lost. Kids do not get to know anything about their parents. There have been countless families that are running around various offices for years, only to be provided with no news about their missing loved ones.

A statement by Dr. Mahrang Baloch, the main personality of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), highlights that there is great alarm among the residents regarding the condition of the area. Several reports claim that security raids and searches have been common practices in many places lately. People generally live under pressure due to fear for themselves and their families. Such practices create fear among civilians when it comes to security inside their homes.

Human rights organizations and activists have been complaining about the cases of murders, forced disappearances, illegal detentions, and abuses against civilians in security actions on numerous occasions. It seems that due to the frequent nature of such cases, they might gradually become routine, receiving no attention or punishment. It is also noted that the process of long-term armed conflict results in cultural and social weakening of the Baloch identity.

The resources are being exploited, and tensions between the central authorities and the citizens of Balochistan. It goes without saying that the province provides natural gas and minerals that play an important role in the national economic balance; however, most districts are poorly developed. One of the examples worth mentioning is Sui gas. For a long time, gas from Balochistan had been providing energy to enterprises and households in other regions, while some local settlements lacked access to gas.

Large-scale projects such as Reko Diq, Saindak, and Gwadar Port have also generated debate. Supporters describe them as opportunities for economic growth and regional connectivity. Critics, however, question whether local communities are receiving employment, compensation, or long-term benefits from these projects. Concerns related to displacement, environmental impact, and unequal distribution of wealth continue to surface in public discussions.

Political instability in Balochistan cannot solely be explained by means of a security discourse. The struggle is linked to issues related to history, identity, poverty, and political dignity. For decades, some insurgent groups have come into existence in the region, whereas the government has tried its best to respond through military intervention and security mechanisms. It has resulted in a vicious circle where there has been an increase in violence and fear.

Despite these conditions, civil resistance movements have also gained visibility. Students, women, and human rights activists are increasingly speaking about issues affecting the province. Peaceful protests, long marches, and awareness campaigns have become important ways for people to demand accountability and justice. Many young people in Balochistan now use social media and public platforms to document incidents, preserve memories, and ensure that stories from the region are not ignored.

However, the involvement of the media regarding Balochistan’s situation is very limited. The journalists reporting on the case usually face different limitations, pressures, and even risks. As a consequence, most events from far-off regions remain unreported in the national and international press. It is worth noting that the failure of continuous coverage makes the locals more frustrated because their complaints go unanswered.

Furthermore, the situation in Balochistan poses many wider problems concerning democracy, federalism, human rights, and balanced development. Indeed, no permanent solution can be found solely through the use of force and militarization of the region. Instead, the authorities need to engage in diplomatic negotiations, respect the constitution, and promote transparency. At the same time, the citizens seek to achieve safety, honour, chances, and the opportunity to take part in all processes concerning their homeland and future.

Thus, people’s call for justice in Balochistan persists through various demonstrations, activities, and debates. Moreover, families of missing individuals are looking for the truth.
