Continuing its mission to promote communal harmony and mutual understanding, the Save Youth Save Future Foundation (SYSF) organized the Pulwama edition of “Mulaqaat: An Interfaith Dialogue for Harmony and Shared Heritage” at the Sports Stadium in Pulwama. Building on the successful launch of this initiative in Baramulla, the event brought together thousands of people from different communities and walks of life, demonstrating the region’s strong commitment to peace, coexistence, and social harmony. The significant gathering was graced by the presence of Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha, who addressed the assembled crowd and also flagged off the Tiranga Yatra from the venue. The participation of the Lieutenant Governor underscored the administration’s strong support for grassroots initiatives aimed at fostering interfaith dialogue and national integration in Jammu and Kashmir.

In his address to the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor spoke about the transformative power of dialogue in bridging divides and building strong communities. He eloquently stated that dialogue serves as a bridge between hearts and creates pathways leading to trust, peace, and prosperity. His remarks resonated with the thousands of people present, many of whom came from communities that have faced challenges in recent years but remain committed to living together in harmony. The Lieutenant Governor emphasized a crucial message about India’s diversity, highlighting that the nation’s diversity is not a weakness but its greatest strength. He drew upon the ancient Indian philosophical concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, which teaches that the entire world is one unified family transcending boundaries of geography, religion, and culture. He also emphasized the concept of Kashmiriyat, which represents the unique cultural identity of Kashmir built on centuries of shared values, mutual respect, and coexistence among diverse communities.

“Dialogue is the bridge between hearts; it transforms differences into understanding, diversity into strength, and shared heritage into a shared future. The true spirit of Kashmiriyat and Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam lies in standing together—across faiths, communities, and generations—to build a Jammu and Kashmir rooted in peace, compassion, harmony, and unity.”

Recognizing the dedicated efforts of the Save Youth Save Future Foundation in promoting interfaith harmony and social cohesion, the Lieutenant Governor expressed his appreciation and called for the expansion of such meaningful initiatives across the region. He made a specific appeal to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir, urging them to become ambassadors of peace, harmony, and national integration. This call to action emphasized the critical role that young people must play in shaping a harmonious and united future for the union territory. The Lieutenant Governor presented a comprehensive and forward looking roadmap designed to strengthen communal bonds and promote lasting peace in the region. This roadmap centers on several key pillars that address both immediate needs and long term vision. The first pillar emphasizes the need for regular interfaith dialogues where members of different communities can engage in open, honest, and respectful conversations about their shared concerns and aspirations.

The second component of the roadmap focuses on developing and training youth peace ambassadors who can carry the message of harmony to grassroots levels and work within their communities to promote understanding and cooperation. The third element highlights the critical importance of preserving Jammu and Kashmir’s rich shared heritage, which has been built over centuries of cultural exchange and coexistence. This heritage is not merely historical but serves as a living testament to the possibilities of peaceful coexistence among diverse peoples. The Lieutenant Governor also emphasized the need for digital literacy programs and awareness campaigns designed to counter misinformation. In today’s digital age, misinformation and disinformation spread rapidly through social media platforms and other digital channels, often threatening communal harmony by fueling prejudice and distrust. Therefore, equipping citizens with the skills to identify and counter false information is essential for maintaining social cohesion.A particularly significant proposal outlined by the Lieutenant Governor was the establishment of Village Peace Committees that would represent all sections of society. These committees would work at the grassroots level to strengthen compassion, humanity, and sustainable development within their respective communities. The Lieutenant Governor stressed an important truth: lasting harmony cannot be imposed from above through administrative orders or government mandates. Instead, such harmony must emerge organically through the genuine commitment and collective efforts of the people themselves working together for the common good.

The Mulaqaat programme served as a vibrant and inclusive platform for meaningful interfaith dialogue and genuine mutual understanding. It provided a dedicated space where representatives and participants from the Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian, and Kashmiri Pandit communities could come together and share their unique perspectives on peace, coexistence, and social harmony. This inclusive representation ensured that the voices and experiences of all communities were heard, valued, and respected. The event commenced with a warm welcome address delivered by Mr. Mudasir Ahmad Dar, Zonal President of SYSF for South Kashmir, who set an encouraging and inclusive tone for the proceedings. This was followed by an introductory address from Ms. Anika Nazir, Women’s Wing President of SYSF, who highlighted the foundational purpose of the Mulaqaat initiative and underscored the paramount importance of dialogue and mutual respect among communities. Her address emphasized that women have a special role to play in promoting peace and harmony within families and communities.

The programme highlighted the urgent need for strengthening social cohesion and for encouraging the younger generation to embrace and uphold the principles of harmony, tolerance, and national unity. The high profile gathering was attended by numerous dignitaries and senior officials who demonstrated their commitment to the cause of communal harmony. These included Shri Javaid Iqbal Mattoo, DIG of South Kashmir Range; Dr. Basharat Qayoom, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Pulwama; and Ms. Tanushree, IPS, SSP of Pulwama. Also present were Mr. Wajahat Farooq Bhat, Chairman of SYSF; Ms. Anika Nazir, Women’s Wing President of SYSF; Mr. Mudasir Ahmad Dar, Zonal President of SYSF South Kashmir; Mr. Jasib Shabir, District Coordinator of Pulwama; along with numerous senior officials, religious representatives, civil society members, and other senior functionaries of the organization.

The event concluded with a meaningful vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Wajahat Farooq Bhat, Chairman of SYSF, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Lieutenant Governor, dignitaries, religious representatives, speakers, participants, and all individuals and organizations who contributed to making the programme a resounding success. His remarks acknowledged the collective effort that made the event possible and set the tone for future initiatives. The Pulwama edition of Mulaqaat concluded with renewed commitment and determination from all participants to work toward peace, communal harmony, mutual respect, and national unity. The event reaffirmed the shared heritage of Jammu and Kashmir and demonstrated conclusively that meaningful dialogue, genuine understanding, and collective effort remain powerful and effective tools for building a more harmonious, integrated, and prosperous society for all people regardless of their religious or cultural background.
