“We are dangerous Ehen We are not Concious of Our responsibility for how We Behave,Think and Feel”.
Have You ever wondered what kind of emotional and social ups and downs Your Children go through at school? Do they complain to You that a classmate misbehaved with them today, or someone stole their pencil case?
Has Your child ever admitted to himself that he pulled a fellow student’s hair or hid a classmate’s copy? Or did he slur someone’s tanned complexion? In fact, we hear Our Children’s One-Sided Stories and react to them at school. However, sometimes when things come to light, it turns out that it was more Your child’s fault or initiative. The point is that just sending children to school and celebrating their success is not enough. , but it is also very important to guide them correctly at every level, that is why training is equally important along with education. If the sequence of education and training is reversed, perhaps better results can be achieved, that is, training should be done first and then education, because the child is trained at home from the beginning of life, how to use things, how to get up. , how to sit, how to behave with others etc. It is necessary that we are concerned about the traditional education of Our children as well as their social and emotional education so that they may be able to succeed in making better decisions in their lives. Schools also need to play a role in emotional education, i.e. by assessing children’s knowledge, attitudes and skills to manage their individual emotions and develop positive goals, feelings, empathy for others, positive relationships with people and be prepared for factors such as making responsible decisions. Students should be given social, emotional, economic and psychological education in keeping with the changing conditions and times so that they not only become skilled and useful citizens but also lead a successful life as a good and considerate human being, as well as a visionary country. The form of a leader should lead his society. Islam guides us regarding the correct training of children. Our religion encourages children to take the path of goodness by building their cognitive, mental and emotional capacities on high values. If We promote good morals in homes and schools from childhood, discourage violation of one’s rights and stop hurting one’s heart, then we can train children emotionally and socially and keep them away from many problems may, which hinder their success in school, college or in general life. According to the famous philosopher Plato, the main function of education is to build the best citizens and psychologists explain that the development of a person depends on his depends on the environment and God-given abilities, so after developing his God-given abilities, he should teach whatever the society wants to teach him.
On the other hand, in order to increase the social and emotional abilities of children in a positive manner, the current educational environment and activities in homes and schools must be improved. In this regard, a revolutionary mechanism under National Education Policy-2020 Policy has been designed in India for children to stay away from each other’s heat and create a sense of mutual respect. Sports activities in the classroom are emphasized to be positive rather than competitive. Emotional or social education enables children to play a positive role in society. That’s why you see that students of some educational institution are often seen cleaning the streets or cleaning the garbage from the beach under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Some of You may have seen them teaching children on the footpath in the evenings or distributing clothes and gifts to the needy in old age homes or collecting food items for people affected by sudden disasters like earthquakes or floods and delivering them to the affected areas. If Your children are included in such students, then You have been able to provide them with social and emotional training and education. Regarding emotional and social education, some philosophers like Philip, Neal or Holt etc., considering the emotional state of children, such Insists on schools where there is freedom of learning, where children’s self-respect is taken care of, they are kept away from inferiority complex, an environment is created where children get ample opportunities to learn and games are fed,Which creates competition among them. By providing social, literary, physical and emotional development to children, their learning process can be ensured in a better way.
What is Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)?
Broadly speaking, social and emotional learning (SEL) refers to the process through which individuals learn and apply a set of social, emotional, and related skills, attitudes, behaviors, and values that help direct students. This includes thoughts, feelings, and actions in ways that enable them to succeed in school. However, SEL has been defined in a variety of ways.
SEL involves five core competencies that can be applied in both the classroom, at home, and in students’ communities. These five core competencies are:
Self-awareness
To recognize your emotions and how they impact your behavior; acknowledging your strengths and weaknesses to better gain confidence in your abilities.
Self-management
To take control and ownership of your thoughts, emotions, and actions in various situations, as well as setting and working toward goals.
Social awareness
The ability to put yourself in the shoes of another person who may be from a different background or culture from the one you grew up with. To act with empathy and in an ethical manner within your home, school, and community.
Relationship skills
The ability to build and maintain healthy relationships with people from a diverse range of backgrounds. This competency focuses on listening to and being able to communicate with others, peacefully resolving conflict, and knowing when to ask for or offer help.
Making responsible decisions
Choosing how to act or respond to a situation is based on learned behaviors such as ethics, safety, weighing consequences, and the well-being of others, as well as yourself.
Teachers work SEL-Related lessons into more formal subjects, like mathematics, Social Science, or Language. For instance, examples of SEL-In-Action can include assigning a group project where students Self-Delegate roles to work together for the good of the group, role playing as historical figures to understand the rationale behind a persons actions, or for students to conduct formal interviews with one another to take a Pulse-Check on current events.
Teachers can also work with students to set goals in areas where they may need improvement and help chart their progress, giving them a measurable way to show their achievement and feel a sense of accomplishment.
