The issue of late marriages in Kashmir, has raised its ugly head far quicker than one could have ever thought of. All across, we come across people from both genders, who despite having achieved their adulthood, and many others well beyond that, yet unmarried, and even not thinking about the same. While this is something that was prevalent in urban areas, has yet slowly and steadily permeated into the minds of people in rural areas, and people have entered into sort of a competition to prolong what otherwise their age, and more importantly nature, demands. As per a recent research, we have over thirty five thousand unmarried girls in Srinagar alone, and what proportion would it make if we compile it on the Valley basis seems out of comprehension at least for now. While we have umpteenth religious scriptures, irrespective of faiths, that teach and lay emphasis on marriage, majorly when one attains adulthood or least to say when there is onset of puberty in one’s life, however seldom do we care for the religious tenets, or even the basic natural demand of our bodies and end up marrying at a time when it otherwise is to settle with life. The late marriages cast an overall effect and shadow on one’s life, as the couples face many underlying complexities in the later part of their life. Among the many issues the couple’s face, is the issue with conceiving the baby. Experts even warn that the couple’s who delay their marriage for any reason, can at times end up entirely barren and infertile, a fact which has corroborated by many cases. There may be many cases behind the issue including the rising costs of marriages, or the pursuits of the families or from the unmarried boys and girls, but it is unwise to delay inordinately such an important need, on which the whole mankind hinges. If someone thinks that marriages are getting costily, they eventually will with each year, and a sane soul won’t let such a thing happen. In the same vein, the pursuits in life are to be pursued in sync with natural pursuits, for anything achieved or done beyond what nature demands from us will be quite unnatural (read having lost its essence).
