The event was organised in collaboration with DLSA Budgam. The programme was attended by Mr Malik Shabir Chief Judicial Magistrate Budgam, Ms Fozia Paul Secretary DLSA Budgam, Additional Deputy Commissioner Budgam(JKAS), Joint Commissioner SMC, Dy. SP Budgam(JKPS), Executive Officer Municipal Council Budgam, PLV’s, persons with disabilities along with their families and official staff of DLSA Budgam. Mr Amir Suhail Wani, Social innovations executive at ELFA INTERNATIONAL emphasised the fact that If society fails to ensure the life of dignity and respect for people with disabilities all policies of job reservation, ensuring means of livelihood and other measures will lose their spirit.
He also emphasised the fallible conceptualization of people with disabilities and reasserted the need for social equity, social justice and a life of dignity. Muddasir Ashraf, Technical Advisor at ELFA INTERNATIONAL highlighted the issues of logistic and systemic obstacles faced by people with disabilities that augments their miseries.
He spoke of the need and necessity, both at the social and administrative level to bring about sustainable changes to mitigate the challenges faced by people with disabilities.
Speaking on the occasion Secretary of DLSA, Budgam Ms Fozia Paul said that DLSA Budgam is always available for persons with disabilities with in the case facing any difficulty in their day to day lives.
She also apprised them about their basic rights and schemes available for this in legal institutions as well as in other departments. She also said that a person having any kind of physical disability should not be treated as a disabled person rather disability lies in the mentality of the person who thinks so.
Mr Malik Shabir Chief Judicial Magistrate of Budgam on the occasion said that such kind of programmes boosts the morale of persons with disabilities.
He requested the administration to take the necessary steps in the building of a ramp system in Government offices for easy accessibility.
At the end of the programme, winter assistance kits were distributed by ELFA International among persons with disabilities and their families.
