The patron of the programme was Prof. (Dr.) Shamim Ahmad Dar, the worthy Principal, and Mr Sarfaraz Bashir (DySP, Sogam) was the chief guest on the occasion.

The event was moderated by Prof. Ishfaq Hussain (AP, English; Convener, Debates & Seminar Committee) and highlighted the significance of the theme underscoring its “detrimental effects”. Dr. Tauseef Ahmad Parray (Convener, Media Cell) acted as the rapporteur and media coverage and technical support was provided by Mr. Aamir Suhail Teli (MTS).
The Welcome Address was presented by Prof. Mehbooba Bano (HoD, Political Science; Vice Principal) in which he welcomed the guests and participants, thanked the organizers for this awareness program on this crucial issue and underscored the objective of the awareness program: “To raise awareness among students about adverse effects of drug abuse”. She advised the students, who constitute the essential part of the society, “to refrain completely from drugs before it destroys your future and life”.

In this event, two Resource Persons (RPs), namely Mr. Masroor Ahmad (Senior Prosecuting Officer, JMIC Sogam) and Dr. Javid Hussain (from SDH Sogam), spoke in detail on the legal and medical perspective on drug addiction and its harmful effects. “Bringing drug peddlers/ drug addicts in the notice of concerned authorities is our moral, civic and legal responsibility, for there are laws/ acts to combat it”, Mr. Masroor said. The RPs emphasized that it is our legal and moral responsibility to combat drug abuse. “A drug peddler/ drug addict affects the whole family”, Dr Javid underscored.
Besides the RPs, six (06) Sem-1 students (03 Male, 03 female) of the college spoke on the ill-effects of drug abuse and steps to combat it. They also threw light on this topic from social, legal and religious perspective. They were judged by three-member jury: Mr. Mudasir Ahmad (SHO Sogam), Dr. Mohammad Imran Malik (HoD, Geography) and Dr. Shabir Ahmad (faculty member, Political Science). The speakers were adjudged on two point scale: Content and Delivery/ Presentation. The first three positions were bagged by Ms. Mehak Hassan, Mr. Kawsar Manzoor and Fazil Rashid Ganie respectively.
This was followed by Presidential Remarks by the chief guest, Mr. Sarfaraz Bashir (DySP, Sogam), in which he emphasized that “for eradicating the menace of drugs, we all are stakeholders”. Thereafter, the student speakers were given momentos and certificates of appreciation by the DySP. The event ended with Vote of Thanks, proposed by Mr. Mudasir Ahmad (SHO Sogam).
The programme was attended by 100s of students and staff of the college, media persons and police officers/personals of Sogam.
After the culmination of the event, an awareness rally from college campus to main market Sogam was organized in which all the students, staff members, police and media personals participated.
