GDC Sogam organised a one-day Seminar on “Non-Violence as a weapon in the Freedom Struggle of India” on Monday in commemoration, and in continuation, of the events organized under the banner of ‘Gandhi Jayanti Celebrations-2023’. The patron of the event was Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Shamim Ahmad Dar.
The seminar was moderated by Ruqaya Mushtaq and Sehrish Lone (both BA 6th Sem students) under the supervision of Prof. Ishfaq Hussain Bhat ( AP, English; Convener, Debates & Seminar Committee).
Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah (HoD, Education; Vice-Staff Secretary) presented the Welcome Address as well as highlighted the objective and importance of the theme.
In this seminar, the key resource person was Dr. Tauseef Ahmad Parray (Assistant Professor, Islamic Studies, GDC Sogam) who delivered a talk on “Gandhian Philosophy of Non-violence: Its Impact and Relevance” in which he highlighted that “a number of world renowned personalities were influenced by Gandhian philosophy of non-violence and is relevant for the current turbulent times as well.”
In this Seminar, five (5) students of 5th semester (both male and female) delivered their speeches in English and Urdu on the different dimensions of the theme.
These include Saqib Sarwar Mir, Shazia Akhter, Syed Raziya Farooq, Syed Ifath Iqbal and Refat Rashid (all BA 5th semester students). Among these Saqib Sarwar was adjudged as the “Best Speaker” by the jury who evaluated them on the basis of content, delivery/ presentation and body language.
Later, Certificates of Appreciation and Participation were distributed among the Resource Person, Student Speakers and Moderators. The seminar ended with a formal Vote of Thanks, proposed by Dr. M. Imran Malik (HoD, Geography). The seminar was attended by a large gathering, both students and staff.
