Budgam : The Municipal Council Budgam, under the aegis of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, launched a special cleanliness drive titled “Ekta Mein Swachhata” in collaboration with the Foundation for Youth Web. The initiative aims to foster community participation, collective action, and awareness to maintain cleanliness, improve sanitation, and promote environmental sustainability across the district.
The drive was inaugurated with a pledge ceremony held at the Municipal Office, where participants, including municipal officials, volunteers, students, and local residents, committed to working together to make Budgam a model district for cleanliness and sustainable living. The event was marked by a massive cleaning drive in public spaces such as markets, parks, bus stands, and residential areas. The participants also removed garbage, cleared clogged drains, and installed additional waste bins in high-traffic areas to ensure proper waste disposal.
Representatives from the Foundation for Youth Web highlighted the critical role of youth in achieving the vision of a cleaner India. “This initiative aims to ignite a sense of accountability among our younger generation. Their enthusiasm and commitment can bring long-lasting changes in attitudes towards cleanliness and environmental conservation,” they remarked.
Key highlights of the initiative include:
Waste Management: Waste collection, segregation, and scientific disposal were carried out in key areas, with an emphasis on reducing plastic usage and promoting recycling.
Awareness Campaigns: Educational programs were organized to inform citizens about the importance of hygiene, sustainable waste management practices, and the harmful effects of plastic pollution.
Community Engagement: Door-to-door awareness campaigns were conducted to engage citizens directly and encourage their participation in maintaining cleanliness.
Tree Plantation: Over 100 saplings were planted in collaboration with schools and community organizations to enhance the green cover and combat environmental challenges.
Street Cleaning Drives: Roads, footpaths, and public spaces were thoroughly cleaned with active participation from municipal workers and volunteers.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from various segments of society, including students, women’s groups, shopkeepers, and local NGOs. Many volunteers expressed their willingness to continue supporting similar drives in the future to make cleanliness a sustainable habit in the community.
The Municipal Council Budgam has committed to conducting regular cleanliness drives under the Ekta Mein Swachhata banner, covering every ward and locality in the district. Plans are also underway to establish waste recycling units and promote eco-friendly practices among households and businesses.
The council urges all residents of Budgam to actively participate in upcoming campaigns and contribute towards achieving the shared goal of a cleaner, greener district. “Small individual efforts can lead to big collective achievements. Let us join hands to make Budgam a shining example of cleanliness and sustainability,” a council official added.
