Free and fair elections depend on strong systems. At the center of this system stands the Booth Level Officer. Booth Level Officer ensures that democracy works at the grassroots.
Their role has grown stronger with electoral reforms led by the Election Commission of India. Their work touches every voter. They help include new names. They correct mistakes. They remove ineligible entries. Each small task they complete protects the right of a citizen to vote.
Booth Level Officers act as a bridge between the Election Commission of India and the people. They work at the polling booth level the smallest unit of the election system. Their main duty is to maintain and update electoral rolls. Even a small error can affect someone’s right. Their careful work keeps the system reliable. Booth Level Officers conduct door to door surveys. They include electors. They delete duplicate entries. They correct details in the electoral roll. They work under Assistant Electoral Registration Officers and Electoral Registration Officers. They identify first time voters. They help elderly people. They support those who may feel left out. Their presence ensures that no voice is ignored.
Their role does not stop at records. They build awareness. Through programmes like SVEEP they speak to people directly. They explain why voting matters. They guide citizens on how to check their names. They share clear information about the voting process. This builds confidence and increases participation. Technology has changed many processes. Online systems and mobile tools have made work faster. Yet, many people still need guidance. Booth Level Officers help them use these tools. They simplify steps. They make sure that technology does not become a barrier.
During elections, their effort becomes more intense. They help prepare polling stations. They ensure voter lists are ready. They support the staff on duty. Their preparation helps avoid confusion. Their presence keeps the process smooth. Their work is not easy. They face tough terrain. They handle large populations. At times they deal with lack of awareness among people. Still they continue with patience and commitment. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Booth Level Officers of Assembly Constituency 09 Uri. They take election work seriously. In a place with high terrain and difficult conditions they give their full strength to complete their duties.
We are fortunate to have supportive leadership. The Electoral Registration Officer and Sub Divisional Magistrate Mr. Prince Kumar IAS leads with humility and clarity. His approach motivates the entire team. Assistant Electoral Registration Officer Boniyar Mr. Mohammad Najiullah Shah and Assistant Electoral Registration Officer Uri Mr. Ashik Hussain Wani also show strong commitment. Their supportive nature creates a positive environment. Their coordination helps Booth Level Officers perform better. Recognition of Booth Level Officers matters. Training, support and appreciation can improve their work further. When they feel supported the system becomes stronger.
Booth Level Officers have also taken many initiatives to increase awareness. They do more than routine tasks. They connect with people. Under SVEEP they organize awareness drives. They hold meetings in schools and public places. They explain voting in simple words.
They focus on young voters. They identify those who have turned 18. They guide them step by step. They make sure they understand their role as citizens. They visit homes regularly. They speak to families. They check voter details. At the same time they share information about elections. This personal contact builds trust.
They pay attention to women, elderly citizens and marginalized groups. They encourage participation. They assist with formalities. They ensure that no one feels left out. They also use simple local methods. They organize rallies. They arrange poster activities. They involve Students and Teachers. In areas like Uri these steps have helped improve turnout. They promote digital awareness. They show people how to check their names online. They help them use mobile apps. This improves access and reduces confusion.
As elections approach their work increases. They inform people about dates and polling stations. They prepare voters in advance. Booth Level Officers are not just Officials. They are the face of democracy at the local level. Their consistent effort reaches every household. India’s democracy depends on participation. Participation depends on trust. That trust begins at the booth level.
Booth Level Officers build this trust quietly every day. Their work ensures that every eligible citizen gets a chance to vote. Their efforts keep the spirit of democracy alive.
