Every dusty ground in Sopore tells the same story, young feet chasing a ball, and young minds chasing hope
Football is one of the most favourite and popular games in Sopore. The sport creates excitement, fun, and a feeling among the city’s residents. Anyone walking in Sopore can notice how important football is to the citizens. Children play along thoroughfares and in small open spaces; school grounds get lively due to matches; and large field grounds are filled with youths rehearsing right from evening. It’s because football is surely a part of the culture in Sopore, especially for youths who view it as a commodity rather than a sporting game.
For most children in Sopore, the love for football starts at a very tender age. They start by remonstrating a simple ball in their neighbourhood. They learn from others by watching and copying them. These early moments gradually develop into a real passion. Inter-school events bring much joy and competition. Being named to the academy platoon is a moment of pride for numerous youths. These matches educate kids in cooperation, discipline, and confidence. This feeling of wearing an academy jersey and playing in front of their classmates remains with them for long enough time and encourages them to take up the sport seriously.
Local football clubs based in Sopore also have an impact on developing young talent. These clubs provide practice sessions, proper training, and opportunities to play match sessions. Some clubs are run by people who have previously played football and wish to develop young talent, and some clubs have been formed by young hopefuls. Being associated with a football club teaches them discipline and also makes them feel as though they belong. It encourages them to develop more and be ready for larger competition matches. Several young hopefuls from Sopore have even played at the district and state levels.
Kamran Hameed Sopore’s Pride
A 23-year-old soccer sensation from Tarzoo, Sopore. The young lad reached a remarkable feat recently as he made it amongst the Jammu and Kashmir senior soccer side for the 77th Santosh Trophy championships, conducted at Goa. Kamran’s life is an excellent source of motivation for young athletes. His life journey, from a small village to the national platform, proves that with dedication and love for what we do, we can achieve our dreams. Moreover, Kamran belongs to a family with a background rich in the roots of soccer. His father and uncles were soccer players. Just like Sopore kids today, Kamran began with watching and learning.
His motivation for taking up football as a career is that he believes it can engage young people and deter them from problems associated with society, such as drug abuse, and offer them a healthier and more meaningful life. Kamran has previously participated in three inter-university tournaments and wishes to offer more services to the world of football, as he considers Cristiano Ronaldo as his idol.
Kamran is more than just a player for people in Sopore, but he is a celebrity and a source of hope. A player for some of the biggest clubs, namely FC Moosa, Lone Star, and Arco FC, he has been an honoured and integral part of North Kashmir’s footballing ethos. Young talent from Sopore and its surrounding regions, including Jasir, look up to Kamran as an inspiration and source of encouragement for young kids who have joined football as a result of watching him. It goes on to prove that Sopore has enough talent to scale national levels if given proper support.
Indeed, in Sopore, girls are increasingly showing interest in football. The participation of girls in football should be encouraged. Separate training sessions, girls’ brigades, and devoted events may motivate further girls to share. When girls see others like them playing with confidence, they feel encouraged to follow the same path.
Another important thing that can help improve football in Sopore is support from the community. Locals can finance events or give outfits for the clubs, parents can encourage their children to share in sports, and be present at all their matches to motivate them. Seminaries can allocate further space and time for sports conditioning. The sports council, in collaboration with the original administration, can work towards better facilities and organize larger events that bring recognition to young talent.
Either football opens numerous career possibilities, not only being a player. Youth can come from trainers, arbiters, sports directors, coaches, or indeed sports intelligencers. Making the youthful minds apprehensive of these possibilities could give them a different view of football as a field with a wide range of options. Football in Sopore is much further than a game. It brings joy, creates musketeers, and inculcates the strong life values of cooperation, tolerance, and discipline. Sopore can take football to a much advanced position. The passion is formerly there; with support, football in Sopore can grow stronger and brighter in times to come.
