From stone pelting to startups, youth, women, and entrepreneurship are harnessing for peace and progress
The Northern and the Border district of Kashmir, Baramulla, was recognized in the entire Jammu and Kashmir for the activity of stone pelting and unrest. For quite a long time, some regions in the district experienced immense violence, fear, and turmoil. This resulted in severe destruction not only to government property, including schools and roads, but also to the coming generation. The reputation of the district Baramulla was smudged, and its genuine potential remained unseen. This is the same district that witnessed the Kabael raid, atrocities on women and the rise of separatism from its towns like Sopore.
However, over time and with the help of awareness and collective efforts, the district has noticed a significant change for the better. Gradually, the people of Baramulla have started shunning the way of violence and adopted the route of peace, development, and prosperity. The youths, who were misled in the past, are now working on their future and developing a brighter future for themselves and their families.
District Baramulla is moving ahead in almost every field today. Education has improved, students are scoring well in academics and competitive exams. Sports have come up as a strong platform, showcasing talented players in regional, national and international representations. Entrepreneurship is also seizing fast pace, as the youth themselves are coming forward to initiate businesses, startups, and small enterprises. Women are coming forward confidently and playing a significant role in social and economic development.
Markets are thriving, businesses are expanding, and at the same time, tourism is slowly catching up. A sense of fear has been replaced by hope and a consequent ambition. No more is Baramulla defined by its past struggles; instead, it shines bright for what it achieves in the present times and stands promising for the future. From unrest to success, the journey wasn’t easy, but it was possible because of the determination in the hearts of the people. District Baramulla today stands tall as a sign of change, resilience, and progress, proving that with peace, dedication, and hard work, even the most challenging chapters can be rewritten into stories of success.
The start-ups in Baramulla, Kashmir, are on the rise, driven by the enthusiasm of the young generation. Youth are now opting for self-employment and entrepreneurship rather than relying on government jobs alone. Such government programs like the “Mission YUVA” have proved to be highly beneficial in this regard, as they provide young entrepreneurs with funding assistance and guidance.
Some of the sectors in Baramulla that are undergoing rapid growth include agri-business, with apple farming being one of the key income generators. The youth are reportedly adopting new methods and technologies in apple farming, storage, and marketing. Handicrafts are also gaining popularity, and these are ensuring that the artisans are able to tap back into their old practices while at the same time earning a sustainable living. Online businesses, freelance writing, and digital marketing are also providing new opportunities for the educated youth of Baramulla. The tourism industry is slowly growing due to increased stability and peace.
Yet, in spite of this encouraging development, some problems still exist. Lack of finance, infrastructure, and marketing networks are some of the common problems for small entrepreneurs. New entrepreneurs also require increased training and market exposure. For long-term and sustainable development, it is required that the services from the administration and linkage to financial support institutions are provided on a continuous basis. If provided with proper guidelines and investment, entrepreneurship in Baramulla can certainly emerge as a robust base for development and peace in the area.
Financial freedom and employment creation are also starting to become major factors in bringing changes in the lives of people in Baramulla. With the rise in employment opportunities, many youths have been able to take control of their lives. Financial freedom not only brings improvements in living conditions, but confidence, freedom, and empowerment also result in every individual, especially the youth.
The small businesses, startups, and self-employment enterprises provide a new avenue of job opportunities at the local level. Rather than looking out for less availability of government jobs, young entrepreneurs are engaged themselves in providing jobs to others. This has started helping to decrease the rate of unemployment in the district. Agriculture, handicraft, tourism, and digital services are the broad sectors that contribute a lot in this respect. Job opportunities at the grassroots level consolidate the local economy and prevent migrations for job perspectives. This promotes peaceful coexistence and social stability as it keeps the youth fruitfully employed. With continued support from government’ schemes, financial institutions, and skill-development programs, financial independence and job creation can play a vital role in building a self-reliant, prosperous, and peaceful Baramulla.
There is no more limitation that confines women to only traditional roles in Baramulla. Though socially frowned upon, many are coming forward with confidence and firm determination amidst all odds, financial crisis, or personal problems. Today, besides earning names in different fields, women are becoming job creators by actively taking part in the local economy.
They have been running salons and beauty enterprises right up to handling dairy farms, units for handicrafts, tailoring centers, and even small retail businesses. They are now realizing that there is no such thing as a small business if it is run with the aid of hard labor and integrity. Even educated women are now venturing out into the sectors of education, healthcare, cyber services, and entrepreneurship.
The path has not been smooth for the women. They had to contend with societal obstacles, a lack of finance, limited exposure, and fear of failures. However, these obstacles were not sufficient to stop them, as through their willpower, assistance from their families, self-help, and government programs, they converted these into opportunities, and their success stories act as a motivation to other women to start their transformation.
Women-led businesses are providing employment for others, particularly the Girls and Women of Baramulla. This is making them more economically and socially confident. When women are earning and employing others, they are empowering entire families and society. Today, Women of Baramulla are making it clear that empowerment and participation are no longer the same things; empowerment and leadership are the same. By turning skills into businesses and dreams into reality, they are shaping a future where women are respected, independent, and equal partners in development. Their rise is a powerful sign of progress and hope for a stronger, self-reliant society and definitely is a step towards VIKSIT BHARAT.
