It is an old saying that ‘Alim Khotu Adab’. which actually means values are more important than knowledge. Both the terms cannot be ruled out, but indispensable. A child in the early stage taught good manners and right conduct and behaviour will grow up and to become an obedient and law-abiding citizen later. Imparting moral values doesn’t mean teaching about the religion but it means making the child to perceive good from bad. Values help one to make good decisions. Values guide us throughout life. That is why values hold high esteem. Good values are absolutely far more important over education.
Values play an important role in one’s life. Values can help us to grow and develop. Values help to create the future we want. When one delivers the decision it is just the reflection of our values. Comparing the present with the past it is quite evident that in the past be it in school, college, and family the values can be viewed much better than the education. Values make us humane. Value is the standard that can help an individual to create the ways for success. We have seen the people around who have a stand out in a particular way and the reason behind it is the value. Values inspire us how we talk and act.
Values bring meaning into our lives. Values cannot be separated from education, people with both the things can have a meaningful existence. Being cultured or civilized are the sub-parts of the values. Values can help to define our objectives in life. Value based education plays a significant role in personality development. Value based education helps an individual to tackle the changing scenario while dealing with the social, moral and cultural. In traditional days moral education and values were given due importance and children in their early stages were taught good manners and were imbibing some inspirational stories. At that time children were taught to be civilized, setting up the taleemul Quran in every area acted as fruitful.Being ethical is good. Children learn their basics from these Madrsas how to deal and behave with elders. As they mean that education without value is meaningless. The etiquettes and islamic greetings are the examples of the values taught in these islamic centres. We have been witnessing that nowadays the highly educated are behaving unpleasantly, that doesn’t mean education seems unable to mend them, but lacking values can do so. If a person is well equipped with knowledge and devoid of values can hardly be considered a knowledgeable one. We must teach the values to our young generation at the childhood stage. This can have a profound effect on their personality. From the social perspective people embedded with moral values are always respected, greeted. A person having this can also differentiate between right and wrong. Value defines an individual’s character.
In the contemporary time there is a significant need for value education in the school curriculum as it helps a child to learn the basic fundamentals about values in order to become a good citizen as well as human being. Considering the future of an individual, Value education can play a vital role. Storytelling in value education can help the students to learn the attributes of human values. Kind, compassionate and empathetic will  surely be incomplete without education. The need and importance of value education during the present scenario are far more important because of the technology and it’s harmful. In our societies a section of the generation are glued with cell phones, browsing reels, vedios, documentaries, movies etc but devoid of moral values, how to behave, act with relatives, elders, strangers etc. A society without having the power of moral values can’t proceed progress in any field. It has been observed that in Western countries moral values are giving less importance as they feel it is easy to have open relations between father and son, mother and daughter.
Islam the Only religion that gave due importance to values over education. Moral values in Islam aim to determine human activity in a Muslim society. It aims to integrate human attributes, activity that aims to prepare the followers of Lord whom islam described and clarified the path of goodness for them. That is why Islam teaches us Alim Khotu chu Adab. Knowledge is the path and value is the goal.
Here is the list of some good morals that must be implemented in our daily life to earn the reward of Almighty in this world and hereafter:
.. Should treat others with generosity and Sincerity.
.. Should be helpful and benevolence to others.
.. Must be patient come what May.
.. Some good moral values are honesty, humility, justice, patience etc.
.. Come What May Speak the Truth.
.. Focus on avoiding jealousy, backbiting, and falsehood.
.. Respect your elders.
.. Love your young ones.
.. Fulfilling the obligations of oneself and to society.
Inculcating moral values among today’s modern children is the need of the hour. Students at present are so much engaged in studies and co curricular activities but somewhere moral teaching becomes compulsory as it gives them the proper shape and direction on how to act or react in some difficult situations. Moral values need to be inculcated in all age groups especially in children as their mind is tabula rasa, what you want to give them, or write it is permanent, they never forget till their entire life. Moral education lays the foundation of the values that help an individual in the remaining life to achieve his or her goal. It is an ethical education that helps to choose the right path in life.
Need of the hour is to introduce hidden-curriculum which refers to the transmission of norms and values and beliefs conveyed in the classroom and social environment. Our society is much advanced and if we people of the society are not well mannered, with rapid urbanization and modernization moral values are degrading day by day. We must not act as mute spectators of how and where our future generation is heading in terms of the values. We should be vigilant enough to look into the daily actions of our young generation.
Moral values and ethical education have always been aimed at promoting  students’ overall development. The way we educate our children has a large impact on the way things are going to be in the future. I strongly believe that a person with strong morals, values are the ones that go on to bring about positive change in the world.
