India, a country rich in diversity, culture, and legacy, has long been associated with resilience and potential. Every Indian dreams of a Viksit Bharat, or Developed India. It is a vision of India proudly standing on the world stage, characterized by prosperity, technological achievements, social equality, and sustainability. India stands on the threshold of a remarkable transformation with the ambitious vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, a roadmap designed to propel the country towards becoming a self-reliant, prosperous, and developed nation by the centenary of its independence. The Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, has an ambition for India; that is to make India a ‘Developed Country’. The Leader has stated that every action of an Indian civilian should be done to make India a developed country; that is, Viksit Bharat. The formal launch of the Viksit Bharat Mission was a major milestone in India’s development. On 11 December 2023, the Indian Prime Minister launched the Viksit Bharat @2047 scheme via a video conferencing platform. In this video conference, he declared the formal launch of this scheme along with its four pillars: Yuva (Youth), Garib (Poor), Mahila (Women) and Kisan (Framers).Viksit Bharat represents a blueprint for India’s development. It aims to achieve the ‘India Great’ target by the year 2047; which was termed as ‘Amrit Kaal’. On 3rd March 2024, the Prime Minister chaired the Council of Ministers, where he talked about a plan for the next five years to work on the ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ vision. It is an opportunity for India to show its true potential and become a developed country by 2047, which will complete the 100 years of India’s independence. With the rapid development in major sectors of the economy, experts have predicted that this mission will be accomplished within its time limit. The Union Budget 2025-26 has laid out several priorities to ensure the successful implementation of this vision, focusing on crucial aspects such as poverty alleviation, quality education, comprehensive healthcare, employment generation, women’s economic participation, and agricultural excellence. The term ‘Viksit Bharat’ translates to ‘Developed India.’ The initiative is structured around four key pillars: Yuva (Youth), Garib (Poor), Mahilayen (Women), and Annadata (Farmers). These elements represent the backbone of India’s socio-economic framework and are integral to the country’s progress. The budget presents a series of reforms and policies aimed at accelerating India’s journey toward becoming a developed nation. The personal income tax exemption limit has been raised from ₹8 lakh to ₹12 lakh, promoting higher savings, investment, and consumption. A high-yield crop scheme benefiting 17 million farmers, increased subsidized credit, and sustainable farming practices have been introduced to boost productivity.Enhanced credit guarantee schemes will foster innovation and entrepreneurship, crucial for economic growth.Capital spending on infrastructure, including transport, energy, and digital networks, is being increased to stimulate job creation and economic activity. The Viksit Bharat initiative envisions an inclusive and sustainable model of development, ensuring that every Indian has access to essential services and opportunities. Its core objectives include:Eradicating poverty is a primary goal, with efforts focused on inclusive development and financial empowerment. Initiatives such as Jan Dhan Yojana, food security schemes benefiting over 80 crore citizens, and tribal development programs aim to uplift marginalized communities. Additionally, providing affordable housing to more than three crore rural poor will enhance their quality of life and contribute to a self-reliant India.Ensuring the prosperity of farmers is crucial for a developed India. Schemes like PM KISAN, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, and Soil Health Cards offer financial security and risk protection. Investment in irrigation through PM Krishi Sinchayee Yojana and agricultural infrastructure development with a ₹1 lakh crore funding facility ensures long-term sustainability. Moreover, Kisan Credit Cards and PM-PRANAM encourage modern, sustainable, and organic farming practices.Viksit Bharat envisions greater representation of women in economic and political spheres. Policies like 33% reservation in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, financial inclusion through Jan Dhan accounts, and entrepreneurial support via PM Mudra Yojana and Stand Up India empower women. Additionally, initiatives such as Jal Jeevan Mission and Swachh Bharat Mission contribute to their overall well-being.The transformation of the education sector is a key priority under Viksit Bharat. The National Education Policy (NEP) has replaced the outdated 1986 framework with a modern approach. Investments in PM SHRI schools, Institutions of Eminence, Skill India Mission, and PM Kaushal Vikas Yojana ensure quality education, foundational literacy, and industry-readiness. Atal Tinkering Labs and the National Sports University in Manipur further encourage scientific and sports excellence. Middle-class empowerment is facilitated through better housing, employment, and sanitation. PM Awas Yojana (Gramin) has delivered over 2.5 crore homes, while urban projects like AMRUT and Har Ghar Jal ensure sustainable urban living. The Rozgar Mela drive, with an aim to create 10 lakh jobs, and an increase in EPFO subscribers by 5.5 crore demonstrate the government’s commitment to economic stability.A robust healthcare system is crucial for national development. PM-Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission, Digital Health Mission, and PM Jan Aushadhi Yojana enhance access to affordable medicines and medical services. Indradhanush Mission for child health, e-Sanjeevani OPD for telemedicine, and Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan for drug rehabilitation further ensure the well-being of citizens.Strengthening national security is a vital component of Viksit Bharat. The induction of Light Combat Helicopters, the Agnipath scheme for modernizing the armed forces, and counter-terrorism measures like surgical strikes showcase India’s proactive stance. The revocation of Article 370 has also contributed to the stability and prosperity of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.Economic growth is at the heart of Viksit Bharat. GST implementation, digital payments via UPI, Startup India, PM MUDRA Yojana, and the Government e-Marketplace have revolutionized financial inclusion and market efficiency. Additionally, reducing 41,000 redundant compliances, decriminalizing specific business laws, and implementing PLI schemes and National Logistics Policy have made India a global business hub.Viksit Bharat 2047 is a visionary initiative that lays down a clear roadmap for India’s transformation into a developed nation. With strategic policies, inclusive development, and a focus on youth, women, farmers, and the underprivileged, the initiative ensures holistic progress. By fostering innovation, investing in infrastructure, and strengthening national security, India is set to emerge as a global economic powerhouse. Achieving this ambitious goal will require collective efforts from the government, industries, and citizens, making Viksit Bharat 2047 a shared national mission for a prosperous future.
