In a place like Kashmir, where there has been uncertainty for a time the voices of Kashmiri women are often not heard when important decisions are made. But even though they are quiet Kashmiri women have always been strong. They have taken care of their families helped with education and healthcare and supported their communities.

The Women’s Reservation Bill says that 33% of the seats in Parliament and state legislative assemblies have to be for women. This is a chance to change things for Kashmiri women. This bill is expected to start after the boundaries of voting areas are redrawn, which will probably happen by the 2029 elections. It is a step towards making India’s government more fair and inclusive. For Kashmir it is not about having more women in government. It is about making the whole political system more balanced and fair.

One of the differences this bill will make in Kashmir is that more women will be involved in politics. For a time men have been in charge of politics in Kashmir and women issues have not been addressed. Things like health, education for girls and violence against women are often ignored. If women have guaranteed seats they can make sure these issues are talked about and addressed.

Also when women are involved in politics they often think about the good of the community. Women leaders around the world focus on things like education, healthcare and helping their communities. In Kashmir, where many people are unemployed stressed and do not have access to good education women leaders can fight for policies that will really help people. Because they have lived in a place with a lot of unrest they can bring a perspective, to the decisions they make.

The bill also helps people at the level have more power. In the few years more women have joined Panchayati Raj Institutions in Jammu and Kashmir because of rules that save seats for them. This has already helped create a group of women leaders who are actively involved in making decisions for their communities. If we give women the opportunities in higher government jobs it will help create a group of leaders and more young women will feel confident and want to get into politics.

However for this to work in Kashmir we need to overcome some problems. The way people think is an obstacle. Even though more women can read and write now people still think women should not be in life because of traditional ideas and what people expect from them. Families and communities need to support women so women are not just elected. They can also lead on their own.

Another thing to worry about is that women might be chosen, but the men in their families will still make all the decisions. It could mean that saving seats for women will not work as well as we want it to. So political parties in Kashmir need to make sure they are choosing women who’re real leaders and they need to give these women training, guidance and a chance to speak up and become strong voices, in politics.

Security and mobility are also very important for women in Kashmir. Women who want to enter politics may face problems related to their safety in areas that are sensitive. We need to make sure they have an environment and support from institutions so they can really participate. We also need to think about women from areas, poor women and women from families affected by turmoil. They may face many problems. Our policies need to make sure all sections of society are represented.

The Women’s Reservation Bill is very important for Kashmir not because of what it can do but also because of what it means. In a place where people do not always trust the government having women in politics can help build trust between the government and the people. Women leaders are often seen as approachable and caring about their community, which can help rebuild trust and get people talking. Having women in politics can also help bring peace and make our democracy more inclusive.

Some people say that just setting aside seats for women is not enough to empower them and that we need to make bigger changes, in education, economy and social awareness. This is true. Setting aside seats can be a powerful start. It can open doors that were closed before and give women a chance to show they can be leaders.

The Women’s Reservation Bill is a move towards making sure everyone is included in the government in India. For Kashmir this is an important chance to change how people take part in politics and to make sure women have a say, in what happens in the region. The Women’s Reservation Bill will only really work if people actually do what it says and if society supports it and really wants to help women have power. If people really follow the Women’s Reservation Bill. Believe in what it is trying to do it can change a lot of things in Kashmir not just politics, but also the way people live and think. It can make a time where women are not just taking part but are the Women’s Reservation Bill leaders who make changes happen in Kashmir with the Women’s Reservation Bill.
